#22265 write high-level overview of bootstrap process catalyst Webpages/Website website redesign
Description

There needs to be a better high-level overview of the bootstrap process so developers, users, and UX people can have a better mental model of what's going on, what can go wrong, and how to fix it when it does.

Probably should be a wiki page unless someone has a better idea of where to put it. There is some text in control-spec.txt that is a decent starting point, but could use more elaboration of background material.

#30751 why SHA-256 or MD5 not in download section? hiro Webpages/Website
Description

Hi. Thanks for very good service. This is not a bug. In download page i do not see any sha-256 or md5 for checksum downloaded file. i have seen GPG in: https://support.torproject.org/tbb/how-to-verify-signature/

#27458 security.txt: Add acknowledgments page to honour our security researches Webpages/Website website redesign

#30678 remove hardcoded capitalization from tpo css and templates hiro Webpages/Website
Description

this does not work well in many languages. capitalization should be on the string itself.

#31295 please server Tor signature files with Content-Disposition that encourages a download rather than inline viewing hiro Webpages/Website
Description

When i click on the sig link in https://www.torproject.org/download/ (which points to https://www.torproject.org/dist/torbrowser/8.5.4/torbrowser-install-win64-8.5.4_en-US.exe.asc ) i find the OpenPGP signature displayed in the browser directly, rather than being saved to a file.

But the instructions for verifying the OpenPGP signature seem to assume that the signature file has been downloaded as a file.

If you use Content-Disposition you should be able to encourage the web browser to save the signatures as a file in the same way that the installer is a file.

I'm attaching a HAR archive of what my browser (Firefox 68) did when clicking on the sig link, which i think verifies that no Content-Disposition header was sent.

#24206 newsletter subscription sends me to donate.torproject.org hiro Webpages/Website website redesign
Description

When I try to sign up for the newsletter at newsletter.torproject.org, the confirmation link that I get in my email is for donate.torproject.org, not newsletter.torproject.org.

To me this feels like a bait-and-switch, where I asked to receive news and suddenly I'm going to be on some donation rolodex.

I guess we used the donate site because it was easier to run the newsletter software there? How hard would it be to separate them? Or at least to send URLs for newsletter, and have that redirect behind the scenes?

#27412 make bug tracker links on getinvolved page accessible without login qbi Webpages/Website
Description

The bug tracker link to Tor on https://www.torproject.org/getinvolved/volunteer.html.en requires a trac account. It is very unlikely that anyone visiting this page for the first time (like after clicking "Get Involved" on about:tor) is logged in.

This longer link gives the same result without login.

I don't know though if this should be fixed in trac or the website.

#31722 make a new product assignment page hiro Webpages/Website
Description

During the Stockholm meeting, the TPA team identified there were many sources of "service lists" in the wiki (and elsewhere). As part of #31261, some work was done to clean that up. One of the pages that remained after the work is this one:

https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/org/operations/ProductsandAssignments

Apparently, this could be covered by the new developer website, and I was told to open a ticket to track that work.

So basically, I think the job is to convert the above wiki page into something in the new developer website.

#30327 https://newsletter.torproject.org overlaps text as width is too small on my phone antonela Webpages/Website
Description

Testing on a Samsungs Galaxy S5 mini I realized there is overlapping text on https://newsletter.torproject.org in the Archive section (the dates overlap with text so that the result is hardly readable). See attachment for how this looks like.

#32044 donation FAQ update on hardware hiro Webpages/Website
Description

after a few conversations over IRC, we figured we might relax or at least document better our documentation about hardware donations. we ended up with the following (markdown) text that should replace question 37 in the donor faq, at:

https://donate.torproject.org/donor-faq

Can I donate hardware?
======================

Typically no, we don't encourage people to donate hardware. But if
you want to make a hardware donation that you think might be
especially useful for us, please mail giving(at)torproject.org.

The Tor project manages multiple machines in multiple locations, all
aimed at helping the Tor project develop software design to protect
people's anonymity. It does not, in itself, run the Tor network.

Machines for helping the Tor project develop software are generally paid for by the Tor project or donated by
friendly organisations. If you wish to donate hardware resources, it's
generally expected the hardware will be fully under the control of the [Tor
sysadmin team][]. Details of the requirements are documented in the
[team wiki][].

It's possible for the Tor project to run only *services* on top of an already existing
operating system as well, but we prefer to run the entire stack ourselves.

[Tor sysadmin team]: https://help.torproject.org/tsa/
[team wiki]: https://help.torproject.org/tsa/doc/hardware-requirements/

If more reviews are needed, a copy of that text lives in this pad as well:

https://pad.riseup.net/p/uDqH8ChHZvr4RIBDuBJI

This has been reviewed by ahf and gaba, if i remember correctly.

It seems the page can changed in https://gitweb.torproject.org/project/web/donate.git/tree/templates/donor-faq.twig but i don't feel super comfortable doing this myself, so i'm punting this to a ticket. :)
