Description

https://check.torproject.org/?lang=ko
vs
https://check.torproject.org/?lang=ko_KR

One is labelled "Korean", the other is labelled "Korean (Korea)". What's up there? They look like quite different translations too.

Also there appears to be a "Polski" and a "Polish (Poland)".

Also the Farsi one says Persian rather than Farsi, and doesn't say it in Farsi.

Where did we get our current list of languages and names for them?

We should sort out a plan for which ones to include, so we can avoid duplicates. Perhaps the duplicates are on the Transifex side, and we should push back upstream to make sure we aren't encouraging duplicate work?

The translations are imported direct from the transifex / git,

https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/torproject/resource/2-torcheck-torcheck-pot/
https://gitweb.torproject.org/translation.git/shortlog/refs/heads/torcheck_completed

I think we'd have to bug Runa for that?

Yup.

In https://gitweb.torproject.org/check.git/commit/dcd2a0e506d6350f2989c50f0797a5ed0a0adcee I fixed that up.
https://check.torproject.org/?lang=fa looks better now.

@phoul: are the subcode (xx_XX, national varieties) something that we generally want support? re: arma's questions above, any idea what we want to do here?

After speaking with a couple translators, it sounds like supporting the national varieties would be a good idea. Certain national variants seem to be different enough that it could cause confusion for users who are not familiar with anything else.

I will go through the list of our current teams tonight / tomorrow. A few duplicate teams / teams that don't make sense have been brought to my attention, I will investigate these further and update this ticket tomorrow.

During the first pass through, I found 2 teams that were at 0%, had no members on the team, and were essentially duplicates of other teams (zh & zh_CN.gb2312). Both teams have now been removed.

I will be doing another pass through this evening, as it seems likely that I missed something.

I believe this is complete, please let me know if there are any other teams in specific that are concerning.
