Is this reproducible? If so, could you give detailed steps to do so? Which OS X version are you using?

comment:4 Changed 6 years ago by mwolfe

I am running OSX 10.6.8

First, I opened http://www.gocomics.com/features

Then I tried to open http://www.shakespeare-online.com/plays/julius_3_2.html

Twice, TBB 3.5 crashed.

it's #9901

mwolfe: Is this still an issue with the latest release (which contains a fix for #9901 as well)?

comment:7 Changed 4 years ago by cypherpunks

Seems like it wasn't #9901. mwolfe reports (#15731) this issue for TorBrowser 4.08.

comment:8 Changed 4 years ago by cypherpunks

To keep history: gocomics.com was mentioned by mwolfe for #8856 too.

comment:9 Changed 4 years ago by cypherpunks

gocomics.com was mentioned for vanilla Firefox too. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1140151 Probably unrelated though.

It's probably about ads used by gocomics.com, that why it's hard to reproduce issue. Users notices:

ads that would -minimize my browser-, display a pop up designed to look like a Windows system warning, that advised me to download some malware masquerading as a virus scanner.

Marked #15731 as a duplicate.

mwolfe: Any chance to answer the question in comment:3:ticket:15731: "Browser puts reason to call of mozalloc_abort to stderr. Any chance to get it from /var/log/system.log for Mac OS X if browser wasn't launched from terminal?"

You are running out of memory for some reason, hrm...

comment:15 Changed 4 years ago by cypherpunks

Some ads from gocomics using scripts that constantly allocates and frees memory. It's platform specific memory leak like a regression from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=937878 or more likely a something new. If no leaks, it's still possible to do OOM remotely, alas nobody counts such DoS issues like real bugs.

I did not mean to close it.

From #16854:

This does NOT happen if Privacy is set to Medium High or High. With javascript mostly (or completely) disabled, TBB 5.0.1 continues to run without problems indefinitely, but loses a lot of functionality: I cannot comment or see comments or image galleries on independent.co.uk unless Privacy is set to Low or Medium Low

Those crashes seem to be gone with the update to Tor Browser 7.0

E10S made triggering such issues much harder.
