Description (last modified by gk)

Not sure how to frame this but it seems there is the possibility that the Tor Browser Bundle is not proper working at least on some Linux machines: on #tor on Saturday there was a user, aurel, who extracted a fresh 64bit TBB 3.5.4 but could not start browsing. The reason was that about:addons showed a missing TorLauncher. We should investigate how this can happen.

As I said it turned out that TorLauncher (and HTTPS-Everywhere) was not loaded when Tor Browser started (about:addons only showed NoScript and Torbutton). But at least TorLauncher was still in the profile dir (in extensions/). Then, she/he really downloaded our bundle, the sha256sum matched. The log on start-up showed only something like

Launching Tor Browser Bundle for Linux in /path-to-tbb/tor-browser_en-US
(process:3815): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed

And the error console showed only the error wrt the Disk Space Watcher service (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=895964).

She/he is still in #tor to help us in case we have some debug builds to test. I currently lack ideas of smart ways to debug this. Maybe a try-catch block around every component to be sure to catch all exceptions? Or do you have something better in mind?

What type of Linux?
Is it Tor Browser 3.5.4? or 3.6 beta 2? or ?
When going to about:addons, is Tor Launcher listed as disabled or completely missing?

How is Tor Browser being launched?
Do the time stamps of files within Data/Browser/profile.default indicate that the profile at that location is being used?

Replying to brade:

What type of Linux?

64bit. Distro I don't know yet.

Is it Tor Browser 3.5.4? or 3.6 beta 2? or ?

3.5.4.

When going to about:addons, is Tor Launcher listed as disabled or completely missing?

Completely missing.

How is Tor Browser being launched?

./start-tor-browser

Do the time stamps of files within Data/Browser/profile.default indicate that the profile at that location is being used?

Good question. Dunno yet.

Looks like a particular case of running out of disk space.
