Description

The re-designed download-easy page (https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en) has resulted in a 2x increase in monthly donations since deployment. Some thoughts to consider:

  1. move the donations button closer to the download button.
  2. Rework the page so the donations button is first, with a nice reason why donations are needed, but clearly state downloads are still free, and click the download button to skip a donation process
  3. Change the page flow so that downloads go to a donation request page first, and then after 10 seconds of no action, redirect to the download-easy page.

One wish, make the download/donation process like elementaryos, http://elementaryos.org/ Donate and download in one click. It's clean, simple, functional.

One point to consider here is that there will be way fewer interactions with the download page as TB automatically updates. Perhaps the right angle is a way to donate from inside TB?

Sadly, many of the donations sites likely hate Tor users, and it will be super unintuitive for Tor users to try logging in to Paypal and then find their Paypal account locked and all their money stolen by Paypal (for their own good).

That said, it seems the clear next step is to find one not-totally-unusable payment site that doesn't hate Tor users, and drive all the traffic there.

How can we find out which donation option (i.e. PayPal, Bitcoin, etc.) was utilized the most in the past 3 months and how it compared to the others?

Paypal is by far the biggest way that people give us money currently. Bitpay is a distant second. Our Amazon payments used to be second, but they obsoleted the one we were using, and we haven't set up a replacement yet (#16353).

PayPal made it very difficult for me to log in over Tor, and then made me change my password the next time I used non-tor.

Why log in? That would seem to be the first mistake. :)

I think we can close this one now. What do you think antonela?

comment:15 Changed 2 months ago by antonela

Yes. We included a Donate button on the /thank-you page.
