Description (last modified by sukhbir)

Instantbird does not yet support XMPP account creation. This is bad, because we wouldn't want to force Tor Messenger users to use a separate messenger to create their account. There's an open ticket on the Instantbird bug tracker for this, and the Instantbird devs say "patches welcome". Sukhbir is going to look into this in Q3. We optimistically scheduled this for September 15, re-scheduled for December 15, 2014, and re-scheduled once more to the second quarter in 2015.

In the mean time, it might be useful to make it clearer in the interface that it won't make the account for you.

(I just started up my Tor Messenger, and it asked what sort of account I wanted, so I picked xmpp. Then it asked for what username I wanted, so I said 'arma235'. I figured either it would have a default xmpp domain in mind, or it would ask me which one I wanted or something. Then it asked some unrelated questions, so I figured I was all set. Then at the end it complained "Error: Invalid username (your username should contain an '@' character)". So I went to the bugtracker to report the bug ("it should have told me earlier"), and nowhere in that process did I even realize that it wanted me to pick an account that I'd already made externally.)

(Thanks!)

We're not using tickets to keep track of Sponsor O tasks anymore. Removing the keyword.

We have added support for in-band XMPP account registration to Instantbird and it is now part of Tor Messenger. (Added via commit c2f960e5638.)

We will be merging the patches upstream; #955317 is the upstream ticket for this feature.
