Tor doesn't warn if it gets an IP address as fqdn

Description (last modified by Sebastian)

Using the typical Firefox + Torbutton -> Polipo -> Tor setup,
I noticed that Tor doesn't create warnings when I directly type
IP addresses into the browser's location bar. This is because
Polipo forwards that request as a fqdn, so Tor never thinks it
has an IP address. I don't know if that is the right behaviour
from Polipo, but it seems that we might not warn about leaks
when the application resolves the IP itself and tells us we're
connecting to a hostname?

I think the current behavior seems alright. If Tor starts logging
warnings each time the user clicks on a link containing an IP address,
he might get worried over nothing.

Also, if an application uses an HTTP proxy, wouldn't it expect the
proxy to handle DNS resolution?
