Mac OS X Tor Browser verification instructions are confusing
- Truncate descriptions
A user on RT (ticket 28223) was unable to verify their Mac OS X Tor Browser download by following the instructions at https://www.torproject.org/docs/verifying-signatures.html, or the tutorial video linked from https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html#downloads.
The two issues reported are:
-
Both the written and video instructions still refer to .zip files, rather than the new .dmg files.
-
The command to run is given in the written tutorial as
gpg --verify /Users/Alice/TorBrowser-3.6.2-osx-i386-en-US.zip{.asc,}
; there is no explanation of the use of the name 'Alice'. Also, that path does not appear to point to the desktop, but the above text says "Assuming you downloaded the package and its signature to your Desktop...". Finally, the command assumes that the downloaded signature file is a .asc, but Safari will automatically save it as .asc.txt.
