Description

http://tor.eff.org/cvs/tor/doc/tor-doc-osx.html
states:
"Select and enter localhost and port 8118 for both Web Proxy (HTTP) and your Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)"
but few people know that 127.0.0.1 is synonymous with localhost.
Also, people may wonder if they should check the "Use Passive FTP Mode (PSAV)" box or not and if that has anything to do with Tor or Privoxy.

Can you use either localhost or 127.0.0.1, or is one of them broken for some reason on os x?

I think the answer re: ftp is that privoxy doesn't proxy ftp, so your ftp connections won't
be going over tor by default? This is a bigger issue than just whether to click that box. Perhaps
we should have people set the ftp:// proxy too, so it's broken, so they'll at least know that
it doesn't work? Or we should find an ftp proxy that does socks4a? Hard problems.

My guess is that people should not or could not input the phrase localhost in the box under "Web Proxy Server" as displayed in the image

http://tor.eff.org/img/screenshot-osx-proxy-settings.png

I think that instead of "Select and enter localhost and port 8118 for both Web Proxy (HTTP) and your Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)" it should state
"Select and enter 127.0.0.1 and port 8118 for both Web Proxy (HTTP) and your Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)" because most OS X users do not know
that localhost and 127.0.0.1 are the same thing/idea.

I asked the question about checking the FTP box because the picture displayed it checked and it is not/was not checked on my computer.

Why not use localhost? It works the same the way as 127.0.0.1.

I updated the docs going forward to match the screenshot, so that they state to use "127.0.0.1" vs localhost.
