Consider switching to a single window interface
Default usage of Tor Messenger can leave me with three windows open. I believe that in these days of phones and tablets, multi-window applications tend to confuse users even more than before. The full window with tabs has kinda become the norm.
Here's some ideas about a single window interface for Tor Messenger:
- Keep the menu bar that is currently on top of the contact window for the whole application. Or maybe hide it behind a sandwich button like in recent Firefox.
- The window content would be like conversation window, with tabs on top.
- The default tab when starting the messenger would have the same content has the account window. If that tab is closed, one can still re-open it through the menu.
- When I create a new tab (using the familiar “+” in the tab bar) I see content of the “New Conversation” tab. Double-clicking on a contact replace the tab content with a conversation with them—just like it currently does.
- The other stuff that is currently done in the conversation window should be moved to the “New Conversation” tab.
- The “New Conversation” tab should gain a new “Add a new contact” button. And probably a “Join Chat” button as it makes sense to also be able to start conversations with new people in there.
I know this is all Instantbird matter, but it started with my review on Tor Messenger…
