Description

I am running Windows XP, SP2. Tor and Privoxy work very well after I installed them. When I attempt to install TorCP I get this error pop-up:

Tor Control Panel 0.0.2 Setup
Error opening file for writing:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcp70.dll

I then have the option to click Abort, Retry, or Ignore

Please help.

Are you by chance running a non-English version of Windows? (this may be irrelevant)
Does the msvcp70.dll file already exist in C:\Windows\system32?

I have heard of one other person getting this error and he was able to just click
"Ignore" and everything else installed and TorCP ended up running fine. Can you
try that workaround until I get some sort of installer magic into the install script?

I am running a US-English version of XP, SP2. Here are details of the file
filename: msvcp70.dll ; location: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ ; version: 7.0.9466.0

I re-tried the installation, this time clicking ignore when I get to that message, and then another message pops-up; EXACT same as I listed earlier, but this time for C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcr70.dll (the file is present actually and its version is 7.0.9466.0). I click on ignore again and the installation finishes.

When select settings from the menu (by clicking the onion icon in the system tray), then select the service tab and click install I get a mesasge saying: "The Tor service failed to install".

When I again select controller from the menu and click connect, I get this message: "Could not connect the control socket".

Meanwhile, I can launch Tor manually (from the start menu) and it runs fine and I can browse using Tor + privoxy.

Please help to get TorCP working. Thanks.

Is TorCP even able to start Tor NOT as a service? (i.e., you right-click the icon, select "Tor", then "Start")

Are you positive you specified the correct path to your Tor executable during installation?

Did you set the ControlPort value in your torrc file?

Ok, my guess with the installer problem is that those two dlls already exist
and are in use, but the installer tries to overwrite them anyway. I will add
some NSIS juju to get it to not overwrite these files if they already exist.
