The error was:

03:38 < phobos> [err] microdesc_cache_rebuild(): Bug:
microdesc.c:420: microdesc _cache_rebuild: Assertion
!memcmp(md->body, "onion-key", 9) failed; aborting.

Just made the code give a more useful error message here, added another assert to (maybe) catch a case of this error earlier, and added a unit test for the microdescriptor cache.

Did this ever recur after I refactored the code 5 months ago? What was the new error message if so?

Adding phobos as cc -- istr he's the original reporter here.

Above I asked:

Did this ever recur after I refactored the code (now 7) months ago? What was the new error message if so?

No idea whether this ever recurred, but it should give a much more useful message now if it ever does. Closing; please reopen if it happens again.
