I got the same bug with version 0.2.3.10-ALPHA-1.0.7-FINAL on Android 2.3.4 Samsung Galaxy Mini.

I got the same error even after deselecting the non-exit relay option and clicking on the start button. I had to kill the Orbot process and start a new one to be able to connect to the Tor network.

Update Orbot. It will solve your problem.
