Description

Hello,
As of at least Tor-browser-6.0.5, I am unable to complete the initial configuration post installation; I have read of a window that supposedly appears to set some things, but Voiceover on MacOS cannot see this window. In other words, when starting the application, from the perspective of a Voiceover user the spawned process will appear to be idle, and attempting to move around within the app simply results in an indication of 'TorBrowser has no windows'. What do you suggest I implement for a workaround to set DisableNetwork 0 until this bug gets fixed? So far I have tried amending ~/Library/Application Support/TorBrowser-data/Tor/torrc to no avail. Thanks.

What OS X version are you on? Hm, I wonder whether that could be due to the update to Sierra?

One additional thing, sigsegv: Does a normal Firefox 45 ESR work for you?

Yes, regular Firefox does work; in fact, I was successfully using TBB on 10.11 until I found that I could no longer start TBB after updating to the latest stable (most likely whichever version introduced the new initial configuration step).

To add a bit more insight into what I suspect is going on here, DisableNetwork is being set dependent on the selections one makes on a screen asking how one is connected to the Internet (directly/bridge/etc), which I suspect is not currently accessible and hence causing usability issues. In the meantime, what file (s) should I edit to properly set DisableNetwork given editing torn in ~/Library appears to not do the trick? I ask because currently TBB is completely unusable for visually impaired MacOS users as a result of this issue. Thanks.

The lack of support for VoiceOver is covered by #14923, so I am resolving this ticket as a duplicate.

You can trick Tor Launcher into skipping the initial setup wizard by editing prefs.js within your Tor Browser profile and adding this line:

user_pref("extensions.torlauncher.prompt_at_startup", false);

Before doing that, you will need to open Tor Browser once to cause the profile and prefs.js file to be created; you can find that file at TorBrowser-Data/Browser/RANDOM.default/prefs.js (where RANDOM is a randomly generated name).

Unfortunately, if Tor Browser later detects a problem during startup in the future it will open the setup wizard, so you may need to edit prefs.js again.

Thanks MCS for the workaround, that did the trick.
