Description

It could be useful if there is an option in torrc to set a user defined comment. The value should be published online as platform, uptime, bandwidth...

For example:

Comment Athlon64 X2 4400+ 1GB, private server

Barring a compelling use case, I'm marking this as "won't implement."

Basically, comments could be used for 3 things:

  • Things to be read by computers. But that's an abuse of the mechanism.
  • Things that people *need* to read, like TOS provisions or security caveats. But people won't read them; they don't read descriptors.
  • Things that people might like to read, but don't need to read. This is the only valid use case, but I'm pretty sure that if we put it in, people will abuse it for the other two.
