Tor Browser auto resize broken

When I resize the browser window, nothing happens

Tested with Tor Browser 6.5 on Debian, Whonix and Tails running under VirtualBox

However it still works fine on Windows

Could you be a bit more specific on what exactly you are doing and what exactly is happening? Does it work on your Linux outside of VirtualBox? (For me just resizing a plain Tor Browser on a Debian machine works). Do you get any error messages? Maybe in the browser console (Ctrl + Shift + J)? Or in the terminal? Did Tor Browser 6.0.8 work for you?

I am running VirtualBox 5.1.14 on a Windows host. I can freely resize the browser window with no auto resizing happening. Console looks empty. I haven't used virtual machines for a long time but I just downloaded Tor Browser 6.0.8 to try and the problem is still there. To be sure, I tested 3 different debian systems under VirtualBox. I don't have one outside of VirtualBox to try.

I also tested with Tor Browser versions 6.0, 5.0, 4.5 and VirtualBox versions 5.0.32 and 4.3.40 with no difference. Did I find some old bug or is this something specific to my system? I would like to see other people testing this

I'm really confused. This may not be affecting just VirtualBox

I realized that when I tested with Tor Browser 7.0a1, this problem went away. Then I tried extracting a new Tor Browser 6.5 on my main Windows system and realized resizing didn't work there too, i.e. not VirtualBox. Apparently I have been using a user.js file that includes user_pref("extensions.torbutton.resize_windows", true);

I don't even remember when I added that line, but apparently resizing was not working and this has fixed it for me.

So I found the problem, when I install stable 6.5, extensions.torbutton.resize_windows is set to false by default however when I install 7.0a1 it is set to true by default

Ah, I misunderstood you then. This is not a bug. This features is currently only available on the alpha series as we are testing it and there are still some rough edges we need to solve. See: #14429 (moved) for more details.
