So, in 7.0a2 things are still fine and 7.0a3 is the first version that shows this new behavior?
Regarding the security settings: do you mean you get a scrollbar allowing you to scroll the text? If so, that's intended. Once the text does not fit anymore into the allocated space that scrollbar should show up helping you to read all of the text nevertheless.

7.0a2 bundles for testing can be found onhttps://archive.torproject.org/tor-package-archive/torbrowser/

Oh, and could you point us to some screenshots showing the 7.0a2 and 7.0a3 differences?

Now even Medium settings don't fit.

So, you are reporting two different things in one bug: the scrollbar showing up now and fonts looking badly in the browser console. The first is not overly problematic too me as you still can see the explanation on every security level pretty easily.

I am not sure about your other issue yet. Could you attach a screenshot of the problem with 7.0a3 and a similar screenshot with 7.0a2 to understand the differences on your system better?

It might be a new content backend (Skia, have you noticed that?) or things like https://www.fxsitecompat.com/en-CA/docs/2017/some-of-browser-default-fonts-have-been-changed/

When I switched content backend back to cairo, the situation improved: scrollbar on High only. But Tor Browser suddenly hangs on browser console now.

Regressions since 6.X.

It could be related to that Tor Browser uses DirectWrite font rendering mechanism now.

skia gets "ClearType tuning parameters for directwrite/d2d".

Maybe, that's also because Mozilla didn't update esr52 with https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1281448#c2?

Replying to cypherpunks:

Maybe. Could anybody experiencing this problem with Tor Browser test whether this is really not an issue with our font fingerprinting defense by checking with a normal Firefox 52 ESR and reporting back whether the same issue is visible?

What this ticket about is not an issue with our font fingerprinting defense, but DirectWrite could be https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=835204, also note that it depends upon the DirectWrite's back-end https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=729848.
