Tor Browser sets this option, so the bandwidth authorities should set it too. This only matters when using a bandwidth server with a DNS with IPv6 addresses.

We want to check both the IPv4 and IPv6 bandwidth.

So if we are using DNS, we should set PreferIPv6, and then put two different addresses in the scanner:

  • an IPv4-only address (either DNS or an IPv4 anycast literal),
  • a dual-stack DNS.

That way, IPv4-only exits get measured 100% via IPv4, and dual-stack exits get measured 50% via IPv4 and 50% via IPv6.

See my branch feature21995 for this feature.
We should check with bandwidth server operators before deploying it, because it changes how bandwidth server DNS addresses that resolve to IPv6 addresses are handled.

Priorities and Severities in torflow are meaningless, setting them all to Medium/Normal.

PreferIPv6 is the default in recent Tor versions.
