Roger said that we've apparently got a set of machines (at hetzner?) that were being deprecated due to not being used.

In the ideal situation, we'd get a 8 core bare metal machine with 32GB of ram, but we can make use with a VM with 16GB of ram and 4 cores in a pinch.

This ticket is to see if we can re-use an existing machine that is down. If none are available that match these specs, then just close this and we'll see if we can order a new one somehow.

boklm, you should be able to log into

as root.

It's a pristine, minimal installation, except that:

  • ssh is installed and root has some authkeys,
  • hoster's DNS sucks, so:
    • installed unbound
    • told dhcpclient to not believe other nameservers
  • set up lvm, mounted a volumne on /srv and bind mounted /home
