#2309 closed defect (wontfix)

We're doing anchors wrong on the FAQ

Description

It looks like when we converted the faq, we got most links as Trac links, like this:

  == [#wombat Why do my pet wombats try to adjust my vidalia settings?] ==

But that actually creates a link _to_ an anchor called #wombat, which we never created. Instead, we should look at the documentation for "explicit ids", which would look more like this:

  == Why do my pet wombats try to adjust my vidalia settings? == #wombats

You can also add explicit labels with the =#anchorname syntax, as in:

  == Why do my pet wombats try to adjust my vidalia settings? ==
  [=#wombats]

We should restore the old anchors, since plenty of stuff still links to them.

Sounds like a fine plan.

It's worth noting that we changed nearly all the FAQ links from the Tor website to point to https://www.torproject.org/docs/faq.html.en -- as far as I can tell, only point c in https://www.torproject.org/docs/documentation.html.en#UpToSpeed points to the old faq url.

Which is a long way of saying "Andrew's hope is that we migrate the relevant faq entries over to faq.wml, where they can be translated, and then throw away the old faq. In the mean time, he has attempted to throw away the old faq."

Actually, I move (not copy and paste) the FAQ questions from trac to faq.wml when I have time to do so. If the trac faq is wrong, it's a globally editable doc, please fix it. The trac links are wrong altogether. We let trac automatically link the questions, but then everyone wanted the old links to work. And trac seems to parse the bracket/pound in odd ways, so sometimes the long form works, other times not.

The real answer is to migrate the questions over to faq.wml and remove them from trac.

I'm not going to fix this. I'm going to continue to move questions from the trac faq to the faq.wml in the website.
