Description

"Gah. Your tab just crashed.

We can help you!

Choose Restore This Tab to reload page content. "

Tor browser worked for two days and then began to crash immediately upon loading a clearnet web page. I could not get any of the Tor web site pages to load or the reddit site but I was able to get DDW and DDG clearnet pages to load.

This same issue initially occurred 6 days ago so I uninstalled Tor and reinstalled it. And as you can read from above, same behavior. I am running windows 10 pro, ipVanish, and Tor's bundle NoScript, HTTPS everywhere.

Just now I launched Tor browser again and was able to read Tor web site. i went to reddit and read several pages. Clicked on a link in the reddit thread to another reddit topic and Tor browser crashed.

I don't know what to do to get a usable version of Tor browser. I am using 7.0.6.

Thanks.

Hm. So it seems something on your computer is interfering with your Tor Browser. Do you have some antivirus/firewall software installed that could be the problem? What is ipVanish doing on your system? Does the alpha version work for you: https://dist.torproject.org/torbrowser/7.5a5/ ?

I use windows defender for antivirus. ipVanish is being used as it was recommended for better security than tor alone. I have not received an firewall notifications that Tor is being blocked. I am in a hotel and using their ISP.

Haven't tried the alpha but I will give it a shot. Thanks

I am beginning to think ipVanish is the problem. I have been using Tor browser without it and I haven't had a page crash yet. I haven't tried the alpha yet

Neat. Let's assume ipVanish is the culprit. No need to test the alpha then. Please reopen this bug if our assumption was wrong.

i can't use tor on either of my laptops. :(

i thought it might be ipVanish but tor crashes regardless of whether i use it or not. Now i have downloaded the latest update and as soon as i try to go from start page to this site it crashes. Reloading does not do anything.

Both laptops running windows 10. one is a sony viao the other is a dell xps. Using windows defender for antivirus.

I don't have any other programs exhibiting bizarre behavior.

Does the alpha work for you? (see: https://dist.torproject.org/torbrowser/7.5a6/)
