Description

When compiling it with rust support it will fail with:
checking rust crate dependencies... configure: error: Rust dependency directory ./src/ext/rust/ does not exist. Specify a dependency directory using the RUST_DEPENDENCIES variable or allow cargo to fetch crates using --enable-cargo-online-mode.

This is expected if you don't clone the submodule, did you do that? Can you provide more information on what exactly you did?

Download the tar.gz file + signature and compile it, like it is shown in the logs.

Hi tortux!

Thanks for reporting this. From looking at your build.log, you'll need to also pass the --enable-cargo-online flag to ./configure. If you're not able/willing to do that, you'll need to set up cargo offline builds using the repo that Sebastian mentioned. Instructions for doing the latter can be found here. Please feel free to reopen if either of those solutions fails to work for you.

(edit: It also looks like you're trying to build an older version of Tor, potentially with a newer rustc/cargo. You may have troubles, e.g. #24608, and potential other build issues.)
