In the FAQ, I find the following statement:

'If your browser says "The proxy server is refusing connections.", check that Polipo (the http proxy that passes traffic between Firefox and Tor) is running.'

This is a good start, but it doesn't give the user any clue about what to do if polipo is _not_ running. Strongly suggest that at the very least you could tell people to examine the polipo crash log. (I didn't even know that there was such a log; I found it largely by accident.)

Our goal is to patch firefox and remove the need for polipo. The tor browser bundles already do this.

polipo doesn't log anything. I think you're on os x, which logs crashes at a system level.

Do you have suggested wording that makes sense to os x users?
