Vagrant can enable us to have pre-configured VM blueprints with Tor development environment that developers could easily instantiate on their local machines.

We should have Vagrantfiles for:

  • Linux (at least Debian, maybe some more).
  • FreeBSD
  • OpenBSD
  • NetBSD
  • Windows 10 (stretch goal)
  • Android-x86 (stretch goal)

We have an infrastructure page for community efforts like this:

I'll wait for Nick's final word on this, but I think this configuration should live externally and we can reference it as we do with other helpful infrastructure efforts that rely on external (possibly optional) tooling.

I tend to agree about keeping stuff like this external.

The main reason to keep this kind of thing external is that we don't have the expertise to review and maintain this kind of configuration file ourselves, so we shouldn't be the maintainers of it. Otherwise, my experience is that people send us all kinds of patches that we don't know how to review.

Ok, I'm going to close this ticket as a wontfix.

If someone is interested in further working on this, please feel free to add it to, we will use this page as a way for people to discover useful infrastructure projects like this.
