Description

Since the new release Tor (8.0) wont open certain cites. An error appears (attached) and the cite crushes (attached). It seems there is a clash between Tor and Firefox for some reason. What shell i do? and I also wonder how come the error is written in my native language?

Is this reproducible? If so, could you give us some steps to do so? Which Windows version are you on and are you using the 32bit or 64bit bundles?

I guess you are using a he desktop. The error dialog is stemming from your system and it is including strings from your desktop.

That said, another idea: do you have an antivirus/firewall software that might be interfering here? If so which one and could you try to uninstall it for testing purposes to check whether that solves your issue?

Well yes I can tell you excactly what i do:

First of all My Firefox Version is 62.0.2 (64-bit).
I use Avira Anti-Virus which has a firewall (attached).
But I used these softwares for at least two years now. The error never appeard before the latest Tor update.

Secondly, when i use tor, I simply enter an address. No funny games. But whenever "security level" is either on "safer" or "safest" I sometimes get that Error.

For example on this link:
https://www.haaretz.co.il/gallery/.premium-MAGAZINE-1.6514360
That's an article about nomadic life in Israel. The website is a mainstream newswebsite and should look like this (attached). But when using Tor the error appears right after the site is loaded, and then it crushes.

Thanks. Okay, you get sometimes this error on "safer"/"safest" as the security slider level. Does this happen with the slider set to "default" as well?

Could you try to disable/uninstall Avira (or configure it to make an exception for Tor Browser) to test whether that is indeed interfering with Tor Browser and causing it to crash?

O excuse me i ment the error appears only when im on "standard" or "safer". There is no "default" in this version of Tor (attached).
On "Safest" i actually can't see any script. Almost a blank page.

Are you sure i should disable/uninstall Avira? I have not done that for a while now. Don't like messing with this stuff.

Any suggestions on what to do? I basically can't surf on certain websites... Is this a common error?

Ok this seems like a similar problem. Thanks a lot for your kind help. But how can I be sure this error is caused by Avira? The main Moderator on that thread says it can be related to other software's:

An 0x40000015 error can also be caused by a damaged/corrupted Windows system file.

In any case, that error is not specific to Avira....I know in the past that Malwarebytes had been reported to throw that error.

Sometimes you have to investigate and troubleshoot starting with the most simple....such as rebooting the computer after uninstall, running SFC, running anti-malware scans, performing a system restore, etc.

I can follow all these instructions but it does not seem right. This error comes up ONLY on this latest version of TOR and ONLY on certain websites. How can i be sure it is related to avira before going on a 10 hour process?

We don't know whether the error is caused by Avira. What we know is that no one of us can reproduce your bug with a clean, new Windows VM and a clean, new Tor Browser which makes it plausible to assume that something on your computer is causing those crashes. And Anivirus/Firewall tools have a long track record of interfering with other software on a computer causing weird crashes.
