TorBrowser ignores proxy settings

Even if I select "No proxy" in the prefs, and disable the TorLauncher and TorButton extensions and restart, TorBrowser 8.0.6 always tries to connect to a proxy.

This prevents TorBrowser from being used as regular Firefox occasionally, if a savvy user wanted to.

That's nothing we support. You are on your own feet here.

So you either remove the "Proxy settings" page from the Preferences (which is clearly the worse option) or you respect the settings (aka the correct option).

Leaving the settings for the user to tweak and then ignoring them... doesn't make your software look very good.

Fair enough. Patches are welcome! (We don't have the cycles to work on this bug)

DNied, does it help if you use about:config to set network.proxy.socks_remote_dns to false? That setting is easy to miss in the about:preferences; it is located near the bottom of the Connection Settings overlay and is labeled "Proxy DNS when using SOCKS v5".

@mcs: yes, that works, thanks. The setting can't be toggled in the Preferences when "No Proxy" is selected, but it can be toggled in about:config. That setting is a bit of a misnomer though, since I'm no longer using SOCKS when I pick "No Proxy".
