Description (last modified by pili)

In #30237, we are working on integrating onion authentication with Tor Browser. We need an explainer for users to Learn More when it happens and hopefully help them with their doubts.

We should add entries to:

Child Tickets

#33454closedggusUpdate Tor Browser Manual Onion Services Section with HSv3 Client AuthorizationCommunity/Tor Browser Manual
#33455closedggusUpdate Community Portal Onion Services section with details on how to set up HSv3 client authorizationCommunity
#33456closedhiroUpdate Support Portal Onion Services section to include a question on HSv3 client authorizationWebpages/Support

Once the content exists, we need to remember to update Tor Browser to point to it; see ticket:30237#comment:55

I can actually think of a couple of different places where we need content on onion service client authorization:

  • As a user/client, I want to know why I'm being asked for an authorization key to access an onion service - e.g Why is an onion service asking me for client authorization?
  • As an onion service operator, I want to know how to set up client authorization for my onion service -
  • As a Tor Browser user, I want to find out more about how this new feature works -

Maybe, to start with, we just need an entry point/question in with links to the three locations suggested above? That way people can choose their own adventure...

I have made this issue more general to deal with all relevant portals. We can also create children tickets for each different portal

Someone by the name of c1e0 dropped some links in #tor-dev today. I was about to tell them to update this ticket, but they were no longer present.

2020-03-05 04:01 < c1e0> Hey guys. I've been working on
projects/tor/ticket/31069 and have made some PRs. It'll be
nice if some devs review them and let me know if I'm
                         missing anything :)
