Tor Unexpectedly Exited.

I have been using Tor on OS X 10.11.6 for years.
Last night, my ExpressVPN connection went down, Tor was running at a high CPU level and the Tor process was ~1.5gb.

When I tried to restart Tor is installed update(s) and would no longer start. I tried deleting the directory: /Application Support/TorBrowser-Data. I also tried to enable additional logging in torrc:

 ls -l torrc
-rw-------@ 1 davidlaxer staff 47 Jul 27 10:09 torrc
MacBook-Pro:Tor davidlaxer$ cat torrc
Log debug file /Users/davidlaxer/tor_debug.log

The Tor process was still running and causing a port usage error
E.g. Address already in use. Killing the process resolved the problem.
