Description

Isa and I are working on ways to help me delegate things successfully. We're starting by creating an email alias that will go to Isa, Pili, and Gaba (and me I guess), which I will cc when I try to delegate things to folks. This way we'll see what the categories of topics are, and once we have some actual data points we can build an even better plan for helping me delegate things.

I did it.

is the plan to eventually rename this to some official name that has meaning from the outside, for people who don't know the internal structure of the organization (like we have hr@ or execdir@)?

Yes, can we have a name that has some meaning beyond delegating roger's tasks? Maybe projmanagers@ or similar?

i don't know what the role will be and that might be exactly why that wasn't picked yet, but I just wanted to make sure that idea was stated clearly in this ticket.

i linked to this ticket in the alias file so we remember it later as well (arma had linked to it in the git log, but sometimes that's harder to find).

so i think we can let this run its course and change this later, although it *will* mean either keeping this alias forever or dropping mail on the floor eventually. we might want to just use the *real* alias right now if we already know what this thing is about.

just my two cents... :)

No, this is a short or medium term experiment. For full context, here's the explanation mail I sent Gaba and Pili:

Hi Gaba, Pili!

Sorry / thanks in advance for signing you up for more organizing work. :)

I was brainstorming with Isa about getting me better at delegating things,
and one of my big challenges is that when I try to delegate things, now
I just created two things for me to do -- one to keep track of whether
the person does anything, and two to follow up after a while if/when
they don't.

So we decided to try a first experiment, where I cc you two on my
delegation attempts. There are three ways you can help me:

(A) For things where I picked a person, help me follow along with them to
see that they actually do it. If they're on a team you manage, you might
even help them figure out how to fit it in, or build a plan to do it,
or decide that they're the wrong person to do it and somebody else is
more right, etc.

(B) For things where I don't have a person in mind, help me guess whom
to try to hand it to.

(C) After a while, look for trends in the sorts of things I'm trying
to find a person to handle, and make some recommendations about what we
should try for the second phase of the experiment.

Hope this makes sense, and please feel free to suggest improvements on
the ideas.

Thanks!

I'm happy to make a projmanagers@ alias for you and pili if you would like that. But I don't currently see that we should mush the two ideas together. Unless I am wrong. :)
