Make sure GetTor info pages and repositories are self-consistent and clear
The Gettor area is a confusing mess of multiple landing pages, multiple repositories, and broken functionality.
The starting point seems to be a blog post from 2016, https://blog.torproject.org/gettor-new-ways-download-tor-browser
That directs to a landing page, https://gettor.torproject.org, which lists options.
But https://thetorproject.github.io/gettor seems to be another landing page with another list of options.
That second landing page only goes up to Tor Browser version 8.0.2, and in any case, the links to download Tor Browser return 404 not found.
It looks like https://github.com/TheTorProject/gettorbrowser is empty.
There is a repository for Gettor https://github.com/TheTorProject/gettor but that has had no commits since 2017.
The similar https://github.com/torproject/gettor has more recent commits but is under an account https://github.com/torproject which is described as "unofficial" repositories.

Child Ticket(s): #32127 (moved)Hi,
You are right there are some inconsistencies that we are trying to fix regarding gettor. This is because the project didn't have a maintainer for a long time.
The repository at https://github.com/TheTorProject/gettorbrowser is meant to just store tor browser releases.
TorBrowser releases are stored in a separate branch: https://github.com/TheTorProject/gettorbrowser/tree/torbrowser-releases
Right now this branch is empty for a temporary issue we are having with github. But our other mirrors do contain files.
Here is a list of our current mirrors:
Gitlab: https://gitlab.com/thetorproject/gettorbrowser/tree/torbrowser-releases/ Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/@gettor Google Drive folder: https://drive.google.com/open?id=13CADQTsCwrGsIID09YQbNz2DfRMUoxUU
Tor Project official download page is: https://www.torproject.org/download
Gettor code lives on Tor git: https://gitweb.torproject.org/gettor.git
We have also updated the gettor page at https://gettor.torproject.org
Hopefully we will have twitter working again soon. I am not sure we want to maintain the XMPP responder though.
Checked gettor email. There was a bug such that the links were shown as "None" and the string after "Download the file" at the end was empty. Reported on IRC and was quickly fixed by @hiro.

Also, has anyone actually checked that the email, XMPP, and Twitter responders still work?

From the original description:

We are deprecating usage of XMPP in favour of newer, more widely used distribution methods, such as:
- Telegram (#22011 (moved))
- Facebook messenger (#21382 (moved))
The Twitter responder is not functioning at the moment and we are working on this issue in another ticket #33036 (moved)
It looks like https://github.com/TheTorProject/gettorbrowser is empty.
This was an old repository used to distribute tor browser binaries. We should make sure we state clearly in the README what the repositories are for and where to find the binaries.
