Description

ahf and I have hatched a plan to make a slides@tpo address, and encourage people to mail us their slides, with the underlying goal of collecting a set of past talks, with details like when, where, where the video is if any, etc.

I'm going to make the slides@tpo alias, which is the easy part.

Then the part for ahf is to write up some text on what in particular we want to hear from people, so we can tell folks that the alias exists, and point them to the repository of slides that we will collect.

We can put the instructions on the wiki to start, and after that we can work with ggus et al to find a home for them in the new websites.

And then ahf is also going to work on a sustainable, scalable, maintainable approach for how to store and visualize the collection of talk pointers.

See
https://media.torproject.org/outreach-material/presentations/
for a version of this project in the past.

And I have 130 versions of slides sitting in my ~/public_html/ directory waiting to be sorted.

ahf, feel free to bring more people into this plan and/or delegate the above "ahf will" items.

Replying to arma:

Ok, this step is done (#32294).

I briefly considered having it just go to all the recipients of speaking@, but I decided we should keep them separate: speaking@ is for folks trying to get a Tor speaker for their event, which is sufficiently different from a mob of "i did a thing, add me" mails.

Hi, thanks for opening this issue. Pili and I discussed about this a few weeks ago.

We have a spot on the new Community portal for slides:
https://community.torproject.org/outreach/talk/

But we have been discussing on where to store the files: media.tpo? git.tpo? Thoughts?

how does this differ from speaking@?

You're in luck! See comment:2 above.

I've been looking into this separately and it seems like I should have been more vocal about since it's been moving pretty slowly :) I will send an email to tor-internal with my proposal, but as a sneak peek:

My proposal would be clean up and re-organise media.tpo and in particular the presentations section so that it is up to date and easier to find materials both by going through the community portal and directly to media.tpo.

The folder structure for media.tpo could look something like:

  • Presentations
    • <Year>
      • <Event>
        • <Presentation Slides, Videos, audio, etc...>

These would then be presented in the Community Portal Outreach section

Looking forward to it! Having some format-neutral way to write the metadata for the talks, so we can format it into whatever markup approach we choose, would seem like a smart and important step.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
