Description

I am currently in China and since yesterday morning I cannot connect my tor browser on my phone unless I use another VPN service (which is very slow, so I would like to not use it). It is always stopping at 5%, I changed from mobile data to wifi, both does not work. I guess this is coincidence, but the problem occurred after I had tor opened while playing the Chinese PUBG (吃鸡).

Tor isn't expected to work in China without a bridge because of GFW censorship. But if it was working for you recently and then stopped working, the cause might be something other than censorship. The main clue I see is Your system clock just jumped 134 seconds forward. The first thing you should do is make sure your system clock is set correctly. An incorrect system clock can cause Tor to fail early in the bootstrap process like that.

Thank you for the information, I just checked the issue with the system clock, but that should be alright. As far as I know the log was caused by my autoscreenlock of the phone. This cut the connection. I also tried several bridges, but they only work on my laptop, not on the phone. I used meek-azure as preset bridge, but I have down and uploadrates of 0-15 kbps.
A few days ago I had down and uploadrates of about 250 kbps, I don't know what happened at that morning, but since then nothing worked anymore.
For the requested bridges, they always stopped at 10%, no failure, but no loading at all. I tried for 5min, but it still didn't connect.

Re the slowdown -- In early February, Redditors in China reported general slowness and international packet loss with VPNs. This was not specific to Tor.

Re the requested bridges -- is this the same as #30767 Custom obfs4 bridge does not work on Tor Browser for Android?

Slowdown:The VPN I am using was always slow, about Tor I don't know, it was very sudden, from one day to the other from 400 to no real connection (only until 5%).

About the bridges, I am not sure, I don't understand all of the information in the posted thread, I'm sorry.

It's hard to say whether the failure of Tor is due to the GFW or some other cause. I think sigvids is right that the failure of custom obfs4 bridges is a known problem in the current version of the Android build.

They aren't available for Android yet, but we have been working on improved Snowflake packages and it would be valuable if you could try them in China and say whether they work for you. These are experimental and will only work for 60 days.

I would like to try it, but I am unsure how to do that. For an android phone which file should I choose? I just saw Linux and win, but no apk or something I know (sorry, not very advanced in installing on Android)

Sorry about that. There are no files for Android in this specific build. Never mind about the Snowflake packages.

I tried the first package on a laptop, unfortunately I did not work at all, it didn't connect to begin with. Another big problem is, with the pre integrated meek bridges I just had 20 kb/s, at most 30, sometimes even lower than 20. So it took me over one hour to download the browser. The connection of Tor also got worse again, it gets harder and harder to connect anything over here.

My vpn, which I am using to write here too, is also damn slow, it took me over a minute to load this.
I really hope there would be anything which I can use to get around this.

Thanks for testing. Your best bet is probably a non-public obfs4 bridge, which may work once the fix for #30767 makes its way into Tor Browser for Android. I've copied phw who may be able to provide you with a non-public bridge address.
