Gman999 and I have been talking about setting up a monit instance to replace sysmon. Monit can help us monitor our anti-censorship infrastructure. It's a neat tool because it doesn't require software on the monitored targets, it's lightweight, has a simple configuration format, and can send alerts over email.

I created a new repository that contains a monit configuration file. It monitors BridgeDB's, GetTor's, and snowflake's web frontends, BridgeDB's and GetTor's SMTP server, and our default bridges.

If any of these go offline, monit sends an alert to our new anti-censorship-alerts@… list. I set up a monit instance on my personal VPS and made it send email alerts using an email account on

I'm very happy with that setup. It does all we need and is really easy to set up.
