In order to implement #3462, Vidalia will need to be able to use the __OwningControllerProcess option and the TAKEOWNERSHIP control-port command.

When Vidalia is configured (using a line in its configuration file) to ‘own’ a Tor process, it should not display the control-port authentication options in its ‘Settings’ window.

I'm not sure why you are suggesting to hide the control port auth options in the Settings window.

The fix for this is in my branch chiiph/bug3463_takeownership which has been merged to alpha, and chiiph/bug3463_takeownership_backport for master. It'll go out with 0.3.1-alpha and 0.2.16.
