Vidalia closes the settings window when Tor changes state

Description

I start Vidalia, and it starts Tor. While Tor is bootstrapping, I open up the settings window.

When Tor finishes bootstrapping, the settings window vanishes out from under me and I'm brought back to the control panel.

Is this a feature or a bug? It is surprising behavior to me, since I'm in the middle of making a configuration change when the window goes poof.

A naive user may be tempted to press the Settings button while Tor is running/ bootstrapping/authenticated.
I suggest, if Tor is running/bootstrapping/authenticated, the Settings button is set inactive/shadowed with the tooltip saying something like "Please stop the Tor browser before changing the settings".

That would be a shame. Changing settings while Tor is running is one of the main use cases we have in mind for Vidalia.

Well, then I beg your pardon. It is only that the Settings button does not alway react in my case,
but this was probably due to my misconfigured Tor relay / port forwarding.

The issue here is that the ConfigDialog applies pending changes once Vidalia has authenticated to tor. If you have Changed=true in the [Tor] section, it will apply the pending changes and close the settings window.

I'm thinking that this should be marked as invalid on behalf of the new settings handling in Vidalia alpha (will come with 0.3.2, but it's already in the source). This is a problem, but I still haven't found a good way of handling this that isn't the way it is.

Closing as Vidalia is not much maintained these days.
