Automatically migrate bookmarks/settings/add-ons between versions of TBB?

To whom it may concern,

I find it cumbersome and annoying to be forced to manually update each new TBB release with all my bookmarks, settings (ex., about:config) and add-ons (ex., AdBlock Plus, RefControl, etc.)

Is it possible to make new versions of TBB search for older versions on the same system, and if found migrate all settings, bookmarks and add-ons from the previous TBB to the new TBB?

Such a feature would be god send, considering how often new TBB versions are released as of late! (I sure wish Mozilla would stop fracking around Firefox, i.e., released v.5, then a week later v.6, then another important security update a week later to v.6...)

What I am asking for is the exact thing native Firefox's do when they are installed on a system with an older version of Firefox already installed.

Thank you, and I hope _very_ much some kind of fix can be implemented.

Technically on Linux this is already possible if you untar (unzip in windows parlance) the new bundle over the existing one.

We intend for thandy to do this for Windows and MacOS. Sadly, it may be a couple months before we get there :/

I'm moving this to thandy and leaving it open. If anyone actually pays attention to the Thandy bugs, they can close it ;)

joyton: thandy is our autoupdater. It is not yet deployed.

nickm: I'm not (deliberately) being a jerk, you appear to still own the thandy component on trac.

@ Mike: Thanks. I didn't realise Thandy is going to handle the request in this ticket.

@ NickM: I am very much looking forward to Thandy, I hope all goes well :D

I'm not sure if you're still reading this ticket, I tried to CC you but I didn't find such an option. I thought you'd be like to know I tried decompressing the most current TBB release (2.2.32-3) dir over the previous release (2.2.32-4) dir on my Windows XP SP3 box, like you described Linux people can do (I also use Ubuntu). To my surprise and happiness doing so on Windows (at least XP SP3) has (nearly) the same result as on Linux. That is, all my add-ons, user.js file and even bookmarks are carried over to the new TBB when it overwrote the old TBB. The only config changes I had to make in the newest TBB was for add-ons that ship with TBB, because I don't use default config for NoScript and the new NS overwrote the settings for the old NS.
