Tor Network Map not working
Hello,
There's a bug in vidalia-bundle when changing the location for the settings file from [user]\Application Data\Tor and [user]\Application Data\Tor\Vidalia to the new directories for your settings.
How it happens:
I want to change the location for the vidalia-bundle settings, I open the settings window and make the changes. If I then delete the folders created before automatically by the program in [user]\Application Data, then the Tor Network Map does not work. The map doesn't show the connections and when right clicking on a relay, zoom to relay doesn't work because tor needs the file [user]\Application Data\Tor\geoip to be present and doesn't use the one you have in your new settings folder.
Also, moving the settings folder from application_data is really difficult.
I have to copy the folders tor and vidalia from app_data to the new location, because tor needs me to show the path to the new "torrc" file instead of creating a default one itself, automatically. So you need a torrc file from start and the program doesn't create one.
Another problem is that the settings are stored and updated in app_data\vidalia\vidalia.conf (the old directory) and are not updated in the new_directory\vidalia.conf. So if you delete the app_data directory, you loose your new settings. That's why you need to copy again the files from app_data to new_directory before you delete the default folder from app_data.
How changing the settings should work: Tor should create a new "torrc" file on its own on the new location, and the new new vidalia.conf should be updated when the settings change. The problem with the slashes instead of backslashes for the path should be fixed.
There's a bug when changing the field value: Settings> Advanced> Data Directory. After selecting the new path for the directory, the path is written with "/" instead of "". After clicking ok and closing the settings window, the reopening it, the path is ok, with .
I used Windows XP, latest vidalia-bundle-0.2.2.33-0.2.14-1.exe. Older versions had the same problem. I hope you can fix these problems. Thanks!
Sincerely, dfsjafi
