Description

This workaround does NOT work:

"In Vidalia, go to Settings->Advanced and uncheck the box that says 'Configure ControlPort automatically'. Click OK and restart TBB. Your Socks port will then be on 9050."

The socks port stays on auto no matter what you do. Not able to set any other apps to use TOR. PLEASE HELP ASAP !!!!

Sounds like a known Vidalia bug. chiiph, got the bug # handy?

The workaround is the following:
open path/to/TorBrowser/Library/Vidalia/vidalia.conf and under [Tor] add AutoControl=false.

The one-liner fix is:

The latest workaround

"The workaround is the following:
open path/to/TorBrowser/Library/Vidalia/vidalia.conf and under [Tor] add AutoControl=false."

Works if and only if you edit the torrc to:

SocksPort 9050 (or delete line "SocksPort auto")
ControlPort 9051

Thanks for the quick fix. You guys are amazing !!

Is this a regression in Vidalia 0.2.15? It sure seems like it used to work. :)

It sure seems like a regression, but it doesn't make much sense why it worked before.

Either way, it's merged now both to stable and alpha. Hopefully I haven't missed another weird-normal use case.

Hi,

I'm a rather drunk mac user and I just spent (!) about ±30 minutes hacking this silly work around into your software. It sure was annoying and I almost feel like you don't use it very often. Please ship this fix already, how else are mac users to use say, Adium and Tor together on Mac OS X?

Happy hacking!

Now that we've dropped Vidalia bundles, we really need to have a SOCKS port on 9050 and on a random port. Erinn, thoughts on getting this into the next TorBrowser for all platforms? This would help us greatly with TorBirdy.
