Description

Linus has an ipv6 bridge up and running. We want to get more people testing them. It wouldn't hurt to tell users about them too.

We should put a little paragraph at the bottom of the https://bridges.torproject.org/ page that says "if you can use IPv6 and you're a Tor expert, upgrade to Tor >=0.2.3.10-alpha and try setting this line in your torrc file".

Then we get more users for testing ipv6, and also some people in China get a working bridge for a while.

(If China blocks the ipv6 bridge addresses we hard-code in the page, we'll have learned something and can build a plan then.)

Eventually we might want the text to be in Chinese, but at first we can expect experts to be able to handle English instructions.

Linus, can you tell me the key points you want the paragraph to include? E.g. which Tor version, what torrc line, anything else they need to know. Then we can draft a paragraph and I can put it in place.

I'm fine with 0.2.3.9-alpha but there might be other issues making us want to recommend a later version?

Users should put something like Bridge [2001:DB8::42]:4711 in the client torrc file.

This is a fine bridge: [2001:6b0:8::108]:4800.

Do we want more?

Ping me if more bridges is needed when this is implemented.

I'm stalling here until the Vidalia shipped in the bundles doesn't reject a bridge line with an ipv6 address. The fix is expected in Vidalia 0.2.16.

Let's use [2001:948:7:2::163]:6001 instead. This is on a fast machine
on a beefy network.

Its nickname is ndnv61 and its fingerprint is
D635EDBE98CE45D72B23FE72AF700AE94AE8AD10.

Added to bridgedb as git commit 8f8d7eb3248f7

And deployed to the live bridgedb. Which seems to be having some load problems currently.
