Yet more breakage

HTTPS Everywhere v1.2.1 on Firefox v9.0.1, Win7/x86_64.

Having HTTPS Everywhere enabled breaks some games at An example is "Mahjongg Dimensions", which can be played without being a paying member. (I have a non-paying registration.)

From enter "Mahjongg Dimensions" in the search box at the upper-right of the page, and select it when found. So far, so good. The sequence of actions works regardless of HTTPS Everywhere state.

Here's where it goes bad. Click that yellow "Start Game" button at the left side of the page. (There's a 20-second advertisement if you're nonpaying.) If HTTPS Everywhere is enabled the game start-up lasts forever. If HTTPS Everywhere is disable globally or if all rules are disabled, then the game loads and plays normally.

Note that disabling the specific rule in HTTPS Everywhere has no effect on this behavior. It is another rule that prevents the game from loading. But which one?

(There's an option lower on the page to communicate your score with "friends" on Facebook. Thinking the Facebook rule might be at fault, I tried disabling that in HTTPS Everywhere. No difference in behavior.)

Hi tmpname0901 ;)

This bug /could/ be caused by the securecookie directives in the Facebook Apps ruleset. We currently don't have a way to go back and un-secure cookies that we marked as secure, so disabling the ruleset after the problem has appeared wouldn't help.

Can you please try the following:

  1. Disable the "Facebook Apps" ruleset
  2. Clear your Facebook cookies
  3. Log into facebook
  4. See if the bug persists?

Also, I should check:

You know that you can click on the HTTPS Everywhere button in the toolbar and have it display a list of (most/all) rules that affected the current page, right?

Using that particular game as an example the rules that are applicable to that page now (in Firefox 12) in the 3.0development~pre.3 are:

  • Game Show Network (partial)
  • Pogo

Where the first two are enabled. Examining the requests using the Web Console (Web Developer tools), the only requests I see that could indicate our causing this (*possibly*) would be requests to for images and nothing else. I'm going to try disabling the Game Show Network rule to see if that fixes it.

Replying to graffatcolmingov:

  • Game Show Network (partial)
  • Pogo

I disabled the first two rules individually and then both simultaneously and the game is still broken. I wonder if this could be another add-on.

@tmpname0901, is there any chance you have any of these add-ons also installed?

  • Adblock Plus
  • Flashblock
  • Ghostery
  • RefControl
  • ShareMeNot
