This is from vidalia message log. Before this i had the problem of tor crashing over and over again due to insufficient memory.
Frustrated, i reinstalled the entire vidalia bundle and this error popped out when i tried to use tor. Can you please help me? Thank you.

Is this a default install with default torrc? Do you have any firewall software blocking tor's tcp connection attempts to other servers?

comment:2 Changed 12 years ago by watisit

Yes, everything is untouched from the installation. My firewall software is probably not blocking the tcp connection
as i had no problem with it before this, and i have not done anything to my firewall for a long time.

I think it is something wrong with my laptop. Presently i'm typing this on my desktop pc and it can run Tor just

fine. Question is, what is stopping Tor on my laptop? It can't be the firewall, i've set Tor as an exception.

Is there anything else that could be blocking Tor?

Is this still occuring with the latest 0.2.0.7-alpha?

comment:7 Changed 12 years ago by nickm

Oops, ignore my previously posted comment.

It's possible that a local ISP is blocking your connections to Tor. It might be enough to run 0.2.0.7-alpha and
add the following to your configuration:

TunnelDirConns 1
PreferTunneledDirConns 1

If you feel like trying a new experimental feature, check out http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/Jul-2007/msg00249.html .

You'll only need to follow the instructions in "part one"; ignore the others.
