The goal is to migrate from a single drupal instance to ikiwiki as a static site generator.

Rough steps are:

  1. finish up the look and feel of ikiwiki
  2. Export the content from drupal to a new ikiwiki installation.
  3. ikiwiki generates a static site to somewhere on vescum.
  4. vescum adds the blog.tpo vhost into the mirror directories and mirrors it to the other webservers.
  5. the blog is now hosted on 3 webservers, at least.

The hold up here is over concern for the blog commenters. Once we migrate to ikiwiki, we have no more blog comments. The current thought is to setup the forum and migrate the blog. We could decouple the migration from the forum setup. And then we have a functional blog again with the forum coming soon.

Or we just use the ikiwiki forum as the forum.

Or we scrap ikiwiki and go with jekyll/bootstrap for the blog as a static site using content in git in markdown format.

The plan is ikiwiki. We can expand it to use the forum as well.

after talking to people who actually run their blog on ikiwiki, they suggest jekyll/bootstrap is git is a far more sane alternative.
