How does check.torproject.org determine whether TBB is uptodate?

Description

If check.torproject.org can determine what Tor version is installed, so can any other website. This is a fingerprinting risk.

I set up a transparent proxy and https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/TorBOX#TorBrowserTB
The website check tells me there's an update available. But I'm using the latest version of Tor and TBB. This is a bug.

It can't tell what version of Tor Browser Bundle you're running, and your next paragraph proves it.

We do not support TorBOX.
