Description (last modified by pde)

Currently German-speaking users will get all the SSL Obsevatory UI in English :/. The following file should be in German!

https://gitweb.torproject.org/https-everywhere.git/blob_plain/HEAD:/src/chrome/locale/de/ssl-observatory.dtd

Should we make the SSL Obsevatory UI available for translation on Transifex?

Well I thought about that, but was scared away by all the stories about how Transifex wouldn't really play nice with our git setup.

However if Tor people tell me that it's gotten better, then yes let's use it :)

Define "wouldn't really play nice"?

However if Tor people tell me that it's gotten better, then yes let's use it :)

It's working well for other Tor developers, you just need to remember to (1) update the .pot file in your repo whenever you update the strings in the English version, and (2) pull from the translation git repo before pushing a new release.

Do you have a .pot file already? If not, where can I find the file with the English strings for the UI?

Okay, that sounds pretty easy actually!

We do not currently have a .pot file.  Our English UI strings are in these three files:

https://gitweb.torproject.org/https-everywhere.git/tree/HEAD:/src/chrome/locale/en

I'm actually not sure how/why we have that .properties file, apparently it's important at the moment but perhaps there could be a way to get rid of it and just have .dtd files.

I created the following three resources on the Transifex website. I also uploaded the translated files I found in src/chrome/locale/:

Transifex will check https://gitweb.torproject.org/https-everywhere.git/tree/HEAD:/src/chrome/locale/en for updates to the .dtd and .properties files. New and updated strings will be added automatically.

I created the following two branches in the translation.git repository:

  • https_everywhere
  • https_everywhere_completed

The _completed branch will only contain translations that are 100% completed.
