Description

I installed Tor button on FireFox2, read on Wiki that I also need Privoxy, which I installed,
but http://www.stayinvisible.com/cgi-bin/iptest.cgi shows real IP.
They say Java is revealing IP.
FF Tools/options/network/settings shows
SSL: localhost 8118
SOCKS: localhost 9050
No Proxy for localhost, 127.0.0.1
Yes, both Tor and Proxy are "on".

Do you have the "Disable plugins on Tor Usage" option enabled?

The Java plugin bypasses Firefox's proxy settings. If you want to use Java anonymously you will need to configure a transparent proxy, which is beyond the scope of torbutton.

"Disable plugins on Tor Usage"
WHERE?
So far, this is the only place I have found such words.

Ah, google found phrase for me => https://torbutton.torproject.org/dev/

However, after telling me "(crucial)", doc does not tell me where such is set.

You reported that you are using version 1.1.x. This option is enabled by default. It is in the torbutton preferences window (right-click torbutton status, select 'Preferences...'). This option does not exist in 1.0.x.

I had to re-install to get 1.1.12-alpha in ABOUT

Preferences now are as you said, but http://www.stayinvisible.com/faq/detect_real_ip/index.html
still shows real IP.

Both TOR and Privoxy are enabled.

By the way, I also tried OperaTor
and IP is still revealed.

Turning off Privoxy prevents FF connections with TOR on, verifying need.
With both on, still no IP hiding, eg getip.com

I've also found that trials of several commercial hiders don't function
at all, so I'm left hanging with no solution.

what does about:plugins say if Tor is toggled? Does it list any plugins?

comment:10 Changed 11 years ago by keb

is it possible that firefox hadnt been restarted since the torbutton was installed?

flyspray2trac: bug closed.
There is some other issue at work here, not a bug in torbutton. Please check area between chair and computer for error.
