Description
Hello,
First of all, I'm experiencing a lot of problems to register for the TOR newsletter (lots of confirmation e-mails to send...).
But my problem is that since the installation of the Alpha 0.2.0.17 (installed 10 minutes ago), each time I launch TOR, it asks a control password to launch...
What is the password please, whereas I don't have assigned one...
Thanks for your help...
Regards...
Alex

Hello,
Well, each time I'm using Tor, I useit launching Vidalia which launches Tor and Privoxy...
We can use Tor without Vidalia ? I didn't know that...
But, if the password is generated randomly, how can I know it ?
Bye

Did your Vidalia perhaps crash or something before you tried to upgrade?
Exit Vidalia and check your list of running processes for one called tor.exe. If you find one, kill the process
and then start Vidalia again. Vidalia will start a new Tor process with a new random password that it actually
knows.

Hello,
It now seems to be good...
By the way, is it usefull to check "run Vidalia as a Windows service", in the parameters ?
Concerning the newsletter, can you explain me how to suscribe please ?
Bye

No, running Tor as a Windows service is typically not useful unless you are running Tor as a relay and
want it to continue running while you are logged out of your machine.
There isn't really any newsletter, but there is an or-talk mailing list. Instructions for subscribing are
here: http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/
To join the or-talk mailing list, send an e-mail message to majordomo@… with no subject
and a body of "subscribe or-talk".

Are you trying to launch Tor via Vidalia?
By default, Vidalia uses a new random password every time it launches
Tor: see Settings -> Advanced.
Your problem is also related to bug 586, I think.
