Description

The preferences dialog used to be resizable. In a later version, it stopped being resizable and was a fixed size which was too large to fit completely on the screen on notebooks. That was annoying, but I've just upgraded to 3.0development.3 and now the dialog is too small. Please see the attached image. It's still not resizable. I'm using Firefox 3.6.28.

Firefox 3.6?  That's crazy (also end-of-life'd a month ago).  Anyway...

This is partially a duplicate of #4205.  But there's also the issue of why that window is being rendered short despite the XUL, which says it should be 600 pixels high.  That sounds like a weird recurrence of #5197, or perhaps like our fix for #5197 never worked on ancient versions of Firefox on Windows.

Does 2.0.5 work for you?  If so, please consider either running that, or upgrading to a modern Firefox ;).  These platform-dependent XUL bugs are a serious pain, and seem to be strangely hard to fix without breaking other things.

Okay, I went back and tried about 20 different versions from here: https://gitweb.torproject.org/https-everywhere.git/tags and documented what happened. It took me a stupidly long time to realize that since 2.x there have been 2 dialogs both titled "HTTPS Everywhere Preferences", the rules dialog and the "meta" dialog. I'd only used the one from Tools -> Addons -> Options, so then I had to try them all again. Ah well.

I was also confused because I couldn't find any resizable dialog in any of the versions, but maybe I was mistaken before. After I chanced upon the handy toolbar button for toggling site rules on & off I didn't need the dialog(s) much, but ANYWAY.

The problem is with the screenshotted meta dialog with the two tabs. Nothing is broken with the separate rules dialog or observatory dialog in Firefox 3 in any HTTPS Everywhere 2.x or 3.x (although they are a fixed size). The meta dialog is the stupidly small one; it's never been right.

Since this problem is worked around by using the individual dialogs either from the toolbar button or Tools -> HTTPS Everywhere, and since it only affects Firefox 3, I guess it's not really worth fretting about.

(I'm trying to migrate to Firefox 10 ESR, but it's complicated..)

Preferences window is resizeable on latest Firefox. We can't support Firefox 3, unfortunately.
