#5932 closed defect (fixed)

eventdns rejecting adresses

Reported by: koolfy Owned by:

On a Tor exit node, I saw this message in the logs :

[WARN] eventdns rejected address [scrubbed].

I don't have more information, but Sebastian pointed out that it indicates there was a problem somewhere with a DNS query, likely a bug in Tor.

Because of the lack of details in the message and logs, I don't know how to reproduce this bug.

It has been suggested on IRC that this might simply be the result of wrong DNS queries made through the Tor Network, nothing else.

Those messages could be reproduced by issuing DNS queries for labels greater than 63 characters.

Maybe this raises the question on whether checks should be made on the DNS queries that are given to Tor ?
Would there be any use or any point in filtering incorrect queries before they are issued ?

If not, I think this ticket should be closed as invalid.

The bug here (and the one I meant originally) is that Tor relays get this warning, rather than using a protocol warning.
