Description

Since automatic account creation is suppressed by TorBirdy, there is no way to hit "manual" while the account is being created.

Only IMAP and SMTP accounts can be created while TorBirdy is activated.

There is no way to switch from IMAP to POP.

I was going to open the same ticket.

The only workaround is "disabling TorBirdy -> adding account -> enabling TorBirdy again" I think.

Replying to cypherpunks:

Unfortunately not. The Thunderbird account creation wizard wants to successfully "test" the server, before it allows pressing the button "create account".

This means, with your workaround, you'd have to connect to the server without using TorBirdy at least once. Since the mail provider is an adversary in TorBirdy's thread model, this is not an option.

I just added support for selecting between IMAP and POP accounts during the account creation wizard.

Check out the latest commit and create a XPI from that to test this.

That was fast. Tested. Works.

The button is on the wrong position and inside the e-mail field. Not so pretty. But I guess it's acceptable.

Perhaps you should make POP the default choice, since it's more privacy friendly.

In case someone else wants to test, see #6099.

It was fine for me on Icedove but then I just tested it on Windows and I see what you mean.

Good point, fixed.

We will close this only after we fix the layout issue.

Layout issue not fixed for me. (Ubuntu precise)

That's what I've done:

1.
cd torbirdy
git remote update
make

2.
Uninstalled TorBirdy Addon in Thunderbird. Is this necessary or is installing over it fine?

3.
Installed TorBirdy again.

Layout issue persists.

Yup, like I said, the layout issue is there and I will fix it soon. By "fix" above, I meant setting POP as default was fixed.

Not fixed for me.

  1. apt-get purge thunderbird
  2. rm .thunderbird
  3. Installed thunderbird and latest git TorBirdy again.

POP not default.
Layout issue persists.

I am not complying, just helping testing.

I appreciate that you are helping us test this out!

I don't seem to have this issue. Can we get someone else to test this please?
