Description

I'm trying to access torproject's trac via its onion address
http://vwp5zrdfwmw4avcq.onion
but accessing the onion address just redirects to https://trac.torproject.org/

is there a specific reason for this or can this be fixed to stay on .onion?

Sounds like the http site redirects to the https site.

I guess we want a virthost on the webserver that handles Host: requests to the .onion address and redirects them to https on the .onion address?

Does the trac hidden service have a virtport entry for 443?

Should we just write the .onion address with https wherever it's written, and call that close enough?

Replying to arma:

Redirect to https is probably not necessary for hidden service traffic and you won't get a valid cert for .onion domains?
So just staying on http should be fine I suppose.

This would involve setting up a new virtual host and mod_whatever for .onion trac. It wasn't worth the effort at the time. It might be better to just remove the hidden service for trac.
